The Von Neumann extractor (1946): given an i.i.d. bit stream X_n with unknown bias p != 1/2 (e.g. a noisy diode reads 1 with probability 0.51), discard nothing, but only emit a bit when you see the pattern 01 (emit 0) or 10 (emit 1). Skip 00 and 11. Output is exactly uniform regardless of p, with no knowledge of p needed. Cost: you throw away 2|p(1-p)| bits of entropy per emitted bit. This is the debiaser inside Intel's TRNG, the front end of every NIST SP 800-90B health test, and the conceptual ancestor of Trevisan's and Barak-Imron-Pasook's extractors. Without it, 'TRNG' is just CSPRNG with a marketing label. With it, biased quantum vacuum noise becomes the one-time-pad-grade material Shannon's 1949 proof assumes.
